Forget big-bosomed divas and six-hour Wagner marathons! In this delicious, delightfully funny show we serve up a smørgasbord of highlights form the worlds of opera, operetta and musical theatre. The result is a fast-moving feast of melody and wit featuring music from Carmen, Roméo et Juliette, Lakme, La Traviata, La Bohème, The Mikado, The Tales of Hoffman, The Merry Widow, William Tell, Bitter Sweet, Show Boat, Bless the Bride and many more.
The cast is headed by two of opera's most distinguished lading ladies: Marilyn Hill Smith - the 'Queen of Operetta' and star of Radio 2's Friday Night Is Music Night; and Jan Hartley - star of the West End’s Phantom of the Opera and The Merry Widow. This scintillating evening of voice and piano includes some of the most thrilling, lyrical and popular arias of all time including: Puccini’s ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’; Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘The Sun Whose Rays’; and Bizet’s ‘Habanera’. The show also features well-know contemporary favourites such as Ennio Morricone’s ‘Nella Fantasia’, Gershwin's 'Summertime'; and 'If Love Were All' from Noël Coward's Bitter Sweet. A Night at the Opera is a delightful pre or post-dinner entertainment at 30 - 50 minutes or it can play as a full-length show of two parts with and interval.
